Midsommar in the rain

17 juli 2018 - Stockholm, Zweden

Kalix was our next destination; on its own not a very exciting place, but we got the opportunity to stay with Helena, Thomas, Thomas' mother and his stepfather. The place they live is so beautiful, Aily got the opportunity to play with their border collies (mainly Claes was a very good friend, and even faster than Aily!) and they have a very charming museum! The picture doesn't do justice to the museum, but it's hard to catch the beauty of it in pictures anyway.

From Kalix we drove to Luleå's Gammelstad to celebrate Midsommar, where the girls and Ilan decorated their hair, the kids jumped in a hay stack, Aily met another Spanish waterdog and we danced around the pole in the pouring rain!

On our way down from Kalix, we spent one night at a standard campsite in PIteå, because our travel plans needed some organizing, and then got the opportunity to stay for a couple of nights with Johanna, Daniel and Johanna's parents at their fantastic summer house near Piteå. Johanna owns a sister of Aily, so the two of them played quite a bit! And we got the opportunity to make a boat tour (too fast according the kids :-) and to even use their fantastic wood burnt hot tub!

Leaving this fantastic place, we went to Sikeå Hamnscamping, where we did a local 'aventyrsstigen', an adventurous walk for kids, visited Umeå's Västerbotten museum, which is very nice, and watched a Sweden game in Umeå. In the Västerbotten museum, the kids got a reading and writing lesson, but not with a lot of succes, as Ilan asked a day later 'Why are people not allowed to look into the water like that?', not being able to read the 'Dykning' part of the sign. Because we like Umeå a lot, we decided to move to a camp site a bit closer to the city, and with -as a first this holiday- animation for the kids... Here Ilan and Gwyn performed their first show, but also participated in a treasure hunt and a sand castle contest.

The first of June, we moved again, now to Måviken camping, visiting the Höga Kusten region of Sweden. More about that in our next blog post!
